Abstract

Introduction to Children’s Literature and Character Development presents a comprehensive exploration of the relationship between storytelling and moral education. The book traces the historical evolution of children’s literature, from ancient oral traditions to contemporary narratives, emphasizing its central role in cultural preservation and value formation.

Grounded in the theories of Jean Piaget, Lawrence Kohlberg, and Albert Bandura, this work provides a theoretical framework for understanding how stories shape children’s moral reasoning, empathy, and social behavior.  Through critical analysis of major themes such as honesty, courage, empathy, respect, and responsibility, the book demonstrates how literature can serve as a mirror of society and a catalyst for moral growth. Each chapter combines literary interpretation with educational and psychological insights, making the work relevant for scholars, educators, and parents alike.

This book underscores the enduring truth that children’s stories do more than entertain they teach, heal, and inspire. By nurturing imagination and moral awareness, Introduction to Children’s Literature and Character Development celebrates literature as one of humanity’s greatest instruments for cultivating goodness and wisdom in the next generation.
